The kitchen is considered the heart of the home, but for these homeowners, it felt more like a maze, full of walls, dark cabinetry, and confusing pathways that disconnected it from the rest of the house. Their vision? A functional yet beautiful family space that honored their home’s 1940s charm while delivering the sleek utility of a chef’s dream kitchen. With children at the island and dinner on the stove, they envisioned a space that brought everyone together without sacrificing performance or style.
From the beginning, this project was about more than installing new cabinets or appliances; it aimed to redefine how the family experienced their space. The clients wanted open sightlines into the living room, an island big enough for everyone to gather around, and a layout that could support both quiet weekday meals and high-energy entertaining.
Central to the design was a stunning 36” La Cornue gas range, paired with adequate prep areas, concealed storage, and space-saving upgrades. Together, we developed a plan that brought their wish list to fruition.

Opening up the kitchen required removing a major wall that had previously separated the living room, and navigating structural and mechanical challenges, such as rerouting HVAC and plumbing without disturbing the finished basement. We also removed a confusing side door to extend storage.
A wider back hall opening improved circulation, while recessed and undercabinet lighting enhanced overall illumination. Timeless upgrades such as marble backsplash, brass accents, arched-top window, and in-cabinet outlets provided both aesthetic appeal and everyday functionality.
Custom craftsmanship defines this transformation. A large maple island, painted in Seville Cabinetry’s “Baby Blue Eyes” matte finish, anchors the space with soft color and bold presence. Topped with durable grey quartz and detailed with custom posts and touch-latch panels, it blends old-world charm with modern convenience.
An arched-top vinyl window invites light and attention, while brass accents echo the La Cornue range. Carrara subway tile adds texture and balance. Hidden outlets, rollouts, and a hutch-style cabinet keep appliances out of sight, proving this kitchen was built to perform beautifully, every single day.

This kitchen remodel enhanced the home’s functionality and aesthetic appeal, creating the stylish, functional heart of the home the family had always envisioned. With chef-worthy appliances, a statement island, and thoughtful craftsmanship throughout, it’s now a space where cooking, gathering, and living all come together; bright, beautiful, and built to last. The homeowners now enjoy a space that beautifully marries the charm of their 1940s bungalow with the conveniences of contemporary living.
